Getting started
A short guide to your first days with MailSequoia: what you need, what we do, what you do, and where to turn if something is unclear.
What you need
- An email address with your own business name in it, like you@yourbusiness.com.
- An invitation. MailSequoia is invite-only for now.
- A few minutes. That is all.
1. Say hello
Request access by writing to us. Tell us who you are, what kind of email you send, and roughly how many emails you send in a day. A couple of sentences is plenty.
2. Follow your welcome guide
Once you are invited, we get everything ready on our side in one go. Then we send you a short welcome guide, written for your account, with the few steps that are left for you.
The steps are copy and paste. If someone else looks after your website or your email, you can simply forward them the guide.
When you are done we check that everything is working as it should, and write to tell you that you are ready.
3. Send your first email
Start small. Send an email to yourself, or to a colleague, and look at how it arrives. It should show your own name and your own address, exactly as you want your customers to see them.
Happy with it? Then send to the people you actually want to reach. You keep writing your emails wherever you write them today.
4. Hear back
When someone answers one of your emails, their reply comes back to you. Your welcome guide shows you where to find your replies.
We hold on to replies for 45 days, so save anything you want to keep for longer.
5. Check your numbers
Every day of sending is counted. Write to hello@mailsequoia.com whenever you want to see how many emails you sent on each day, and we send your numbers to you.
Common questions
Do I have to change how I write my emails?
No. You keep writing and sending the way you do today. MailSequoia takes care of what happens after you press send.
Will my website or my current email be affected?
No. Both stay exactly as they are.
Why did an email to one person not go out?
That address is probably on your do-not-send list. An address lands there when it stops working, or when the person marks your email as spam. This is MailSequoia looking after your good name. If you think an address is there by mistake, write to us.
How long does it take to get going?
A few minutes of your time, and sometimes a few hours of waiting while everything settles. We tell you as soon as you are ready.
Is there an app or an account page?
Not yet. For now everything goes through email.
What am I allowed to send?
Truthful email that follows the law: say who you are, mean what your subject line says, and stop when someone asks you to. The acceptable use policy is short, and worth two minutes before your first send.
