What MailSequoia collects, why, how long it is kept, and how to reach us about it. Written to be read.

Who this page is for

It covers four groups of people: visitors to this website, people who write to us, customers who send mail through MailSequoia, and people who receive mail that was sent through MailSequoia.

This website

  • The site sets no cookies.
  • It runs no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts.
  • Its fonts, images and one small script come from our own website. Nothing is loaded from another company.
  • It has no forms. The only way to send us information is to write an email.

To show you a page, our website has to see the internet address your request comes from, as every website does. We do not keep a log of visits to this site.

If you write to us

We keep your email address and what you wrote so that we can answer you and keep a record of the conversation. That includes access requests, account questions and abuse reports.

If you are a customer

We hold what we need to run your account:

  • Your contact details and the details of your plan and billing.
  • The email addresses you send from, and how your account is set up.
  • Day-by-day counts of what you sent, which make up your usage numbers and your bill.

Email sent through MailSequoia

To deliver an email we have to process it: what it says, who it is from and who it is going to. We do this only to deliver the email and to run the service.

We keep delivery records. For each email that means the address it went to, the time, and what happened to it: delivered, returned, or reported as spam.

We keep a do-not-send list for each sender. It holds addresses that stopped working or reported the sender's email as spam, so that email to them stops. An address stays on the list for as long as it is needed to keep that email stopped.

Replies

Replies to our customers' email pass through MailSequoia on their way back to the customer. We store them for the customer for 45 days and then delete them automatically.

Who else handles the data

We use other companies to provide the computers and connections the service runs on, and to help deliver email. They handle data on our behalf, and only for that purpose.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use the content of anyone's mail for advertising.

We may disclose information when the law requires it, or when it is needed to investigate abuse of the service.

If you received email sent through MailSequoia

The sender of that email decided to write to you, and is responsible for having your address. To make it stop, use the opt-out in the email or reply and say so. If that does not work, or the email looks wrong, report it to us.

Your requests

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@mailsequoia.com. If the law where you live gives you further rights over your data, the same address is the place to use them.

One thing we may keep after a deletion request is your address on a do-not-send list, because that is what stops further email to you.

Changes to this page

If what we do changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated.
